Only a swift 35 minute ferry from Auckland and you’ve reached the oasis known as Tantalus Estate. But rest assured you’ll feel a million miles away from any kind of city hustle and bustle.
The immaculately manicured gardens with striking pops of purple, yellow and pink make the perfect back drop with a quiet little nook for lawn games and bean bag chills. Step inside and the sophisticated fit out will calm you instantly. The lights for one are upturned grape vines fused together with tiny seed lights and industrial dark glass bulbs.
We came for the food and were not disappointed. With Hawkes Bay beef and lamb on the menu for mains, we were spoilt for choice - no two dishes were alike. The 20 day aged Black Angus Sirloin was cooked to medium rare perfection, accompanied by classic duck fat Maori potatoes and small Alibi cider onions. Topped off with a Waiheke Island Rose, this combination of food, wine, interiors and gardens was heavenly. You’ll wish you made the trip sooner.
